The recent announcement by the library at Harvard University that it cannot afford to continue electronic journal subscriptions at going rates is welcome news. Folks, you know it’s bad when, Harvard cannot afford…. They rightly call the current system of research distribution “fiscally unsustainable and academically restrictive.” Hear, hear. Most encouraging was the library’s open encouragement for faculty to publish in open access journals. It will be great fun to see if other prominent universities join the party. The foundations of academic publishing are finally beginning to crack….
