About

I am Senior Director of Research and Development at Fortna, where I lead an awesome team of researchers working on problems in warehousing and distribution. Formerly I was a professor of industrial engineering and Director of the Logistics and Distribution Institute at the University of Louisville, USA. I also held appointments at Auburn University and at the Naval Postgraduate School.  I graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1985 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and received my MS and PhD degrees from the School of Industrial & Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech. My research interests include modeling and control of logistics systems, with applications in distribution, warehousing, and material handling. \begin{boasting} In 2009, I was awarded the Technical Innovation in Industrial Engineering Award for my work (with Russ Meller) on aisle designs for unit-load warehouses, and in 2017 I received the Reed-Apple Lifetime Achievement Award for contributions to material handling research and education. I am a past president of the College-Industry Council on Material Handling Education, and I served as editor-in-chief of the 2014 U.S. Roadmap for Material Handling and Logistics. My Erdős number is 3 (Bartholdi-Tovey-Erdős). \end{boasting}

  1. I am looking into the possibility of purchasing a property that was used by Fed Ex. It appears to be best suited for cross dock operation. I would like to find an expert in this field that could consult with me on the feasibility of this project. I would appreciate any help that you or your staff could provide in order to get me pointed in the right direction. Thanks!
